About Us

Roddy Klein & Ryan is devoted to enforcement of consumer rights.  RKR lawyers have unique and varied professional backgrounds that include work in a variety of public service capacities, including as Assistant Attorney General, civil legal services lawyers, non-profit consumer advocates and Peace Corps volunteers.  Through these endeavors, RKR lawyers have extensive experiences and contacts to bring to bear on behalf of their clients.

In the last decade, RKR has obtained more than $500 million for consumers victimized by predatory business practices. Our practice is diverse, ranging from “megafund” class actions like our case against Sears, which resulted in a $171 million refund to consumers nationwide, to overcharge cases against major Northeast electric utilities, refunding $4.3 million to homeowners, and recent overpricing class actions against two major supermarket chains in New England, which we resolved by directing $150,000 to local food banks.

RKR has also successfully litigated many claims against subprime mortgage lenders.  In 2005, RKR resolved several cases against Household Finance that resulted in more than $150 million in relief for affected homeowners.  RKR was also lead counsel in a case against a prominent subprime mortgage servicer resulting in restitution of more than $47 million to affected homeowners.

We are currently litigating a major national class action against Ameriquest and Argent, challenging predatory mortgage lending practices. RKR is also leading a team of law firms bringing suit against lenders including Countrywide and Wells Fargo for overcharging black homeowners for mortgage loans. At the same time, we are actively defending individual homeowners from foreclosure actions brought by predatory lenders.

Although we are based in Boston, we collaborate with other consumer law firms to bring cases in most states. For example, in the past few years we have challenged usurious auto financing, unfair mortgage lending, abusive mortgage servicing, predatory debt collection, unfair insurance practices, and high rate tax refund anticipation loan programs. These cases took place in state and federal courts in Ohio, Michigan, California, Florida, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Illinois, New York, Texas, Puerto Rico, and, of course, Massachusetts.

The firm’s lawyers frequently write and speak on consumer finance and class action issues at national conferences and legal education programs. We strive to keep current on developing issues in the law, use technology to enhance our ability to represent consumers, and form both legal and personal alliances with other consumer firms across the country with whom we work.
